Aldermaston & Wasing Show
Inaugurated during the war in 1943 this was held in the yard of the Hinds Head Hotel. An ever constant factor has been the Arlott family's association with the show through the years. In 1950 the committee changes the name to the present Aldermaston & Wasing Produce Show.
Becoming increasing expensive to run and looking like being abandoned, with great trepidation Ted & Evelyn said "let's try it here". So in 1962 the Aldermaston & Wasing Produce Show moved to The Old Mill and was held on the 1st Saturday of the month in September. Admission was 1 shilling. Some 450 people attended. This is still an annual village tradition with a 2009 attendance of over 2000 people.
In 1948 the show followed up with an evening dance, admission 2s/6d (25p) which was held at the village hall. This continues today with a three course buffet/dance held at The Old Mill. Open to all and a great way to end the day.
Various local golf, cricket, fishing, gun and pony clubs hold presentation and social evenings. Charity fundraising for local, national and international causes. One annual Christmas fancy dress party has been raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Care for 25 years, and has raised in excess of £50,000.
Location Filming and Photo Shoots
Being such a stunning backdrop it comes as no surprise The Old Mill is a popular venue for advertisements ranging from Bridal and Country magazines to commercials.
